Philips (Netherlands) - Philips announced a new software update for its EPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound systems, introducing artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate exams and increase diagnostic accuracy. The Elevate update brings over 100 new image presets for various clinical areas, improving image quality and optimizing workflows.

Automation for Faster and More Accurate Diagnoses

With the growing demand for imaging exams and the shortage of experienced professionals, hospitals are facing challenges in operational efficiency. To help address these issues, Philips introduced new automation features, including Quick Launch, which reduces the time required to set up images for abdominal exams by up to 50%.

Another innovation is Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) AutoScan, which automatically adjusts the gain in each pixel and frame, providing better image quality and more confidence in the diagnosis. The Auto ElastQ, which automates liver elastography, reduces the time needed for liver stiffness assessment by up to 60%, helping diagnose liver diseases without the need for a biopsy.

Artificial Intelligence for Cardiac Assessment and Clinical Support

In cardiology, Philips relies on AI to optimize the assessment of left ventricular function. AutoStrain automatically selects the best images for myocardial strain quantification, while the new automatic wall motion scoring system in Affiniti eliminates user variability, enabling more accurate diagnosis of heart diseases.

Additionally, Philips has partnered with Koios Medical to integrate AI-based clinical support into the evaluation of breast lesions and thyroid nodules, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and diagnostic confidence.

Enhanced Connectivity and Cybersecurity

The Elevate update includes improvements in cybersecurity, remote monitoring, and integration with Collaboration Live, allowing medical teams to review exams remotely and make remote diagnoses. Furthermore, Philips introduced the capability for remote software updates, reducing equipment downtime and identifying issues more quickly.

With these innovations, Philips continues to lead the transformation of ultrasound, making exams faster, more efficient, and accessible, while improving patient outcomes.
